G321- Analysing film openings

To help us with our genre, we have decided to analyse some tragic film openings to see what they contain and what effects they have to make it the drama it is.

My Sisters Keeper
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LS55xHZWzEo
Narrative – A little girl is talking about her family, and why she was born for a reason, to save her sister.
Genre – The genre is a tragic drama as it is about a young girl fighting through her battle of cancer.
Atmosphere – The atmosphere I think is very light hearted at the moment, you are just learning about this family, you don't really feel anything till the end of the opening when you find out the sisters is dying then you feel sympathy.
Titles The titles are used extremely well! Everything is in the opening from the actors to producer to director the only negative thing we think is that the title "My Sisters Keeper", comes up way to early.
Sound – There is a very light soundtrack playing, quite slow paced but just a gentle rhythm to follow and not to overpowering.
Character – We know that the film is going to involve a family, at the moment we find out there is a mother, father and two daughters, we haven't been introduced to any other characters yet.
Themes - The themes involved with the film are death, birth, terminal illness, family and betrayal.
Setting - In the opening we actually don't find out where the film is set, all we see is home videos and the familys memories.
